Springer 20 is an excellent investment for optimising dry matter intake (DMI) pre/post calving, and enhancing milk production.
Springer 20 feed encourages healthy mother and calf by acting to :
- Optimise dry matter intake pre/post calving, which is important in minimising the rate of body condition loss.
- Increase post-calving oestrus activity and six week in calf rates.
- Improve time to peak milk and total lactation performance.
- Reduce the incidence of clinical and subclinical milk fever, ketosis, retained foetal membranes, metritis, displaced abomasums (DAs) and mastitis.
For a healthier herd, aim to ensure your Springers’ diets include*:
14-16% CP
100-120MJ ME/cow/day
>36% total NDF
12-15kg DMI
*These are a guide only and may vary depending on live weight and production targets
Metabolisable Energy (MJ ME/kg DM): 11.2
Crude Protein %: 20%
NDF %: 18%
Starch %: 36%
DCAD (mEq/kg DM): -730

Important Live Birth Rates
Healthier cows have higher live birth rates, stronger young and better milk production. Make sure your cows are in the best of health with nutritious feed from Reid Stockfeeds.
Why Feed Reid?
The ingredients in Springer 20 from Reid Stockfeeds can improve calving ease and help stimulate higher milk production throughout lactation.
With a specialised blend of cereal grains, protein sources, trace minerals and anionic salts, Springer Live 20 should be fed to dairy cows and heifers at a rate of 4kg per head per day during the last three weeks of pregnancy.

Springer 20 Guidelines
Follow these instructions for the best health during the final stages of pregnancy:
- Feed Reid Stockfeeds Springer 20 for a minimum of 21 days prior to calving.
- Feed Springer 20 at a rate of 4kg per cow per day and continue access to good quality cereal or pasture hay, and a small amount of pasture (if available).
- Keep Springer 20 as fresh as possible to reduce the chance of it becoming stale or contaminated.
- Cows and heifers should have ad lib access to fresh, clean water. This can aid in increasing DMI of all feeds.
- After calving, remove Springer 20 from the diet and feed a fresh cow ration specifically customised by a Reid Stockfeeds nutritionist.
Key Ingredients
Springer 20 feed contains the following:
– True protein sources such as lupins, canola meal and soybean meal to:
- Get the new mother’s udder “in the mood” to make milk by supplying it with high quality amino acids
- Drive appetite so that cows are healthy and produce good volumes of milk after pregnancy
- Increase muscle tone, calf vitality and colostrum quality
– Adequate starch from sources such as wheat, barley and maize:
- For rumen adaptation and papillae growth
- To meet higher starch needs post-calving.
- To increase energy density of the springer diet and get insulin working
– High levels of magnesium for:
- Upregulation of parathyroid hormone (PTH)
- Improved mobilisation of calcium from the bones
- Absorption of calcium from the diet.
– High levels of the trace minerals copper, zinc, selenium, manganese, cobalt, iodine.
– Low DCAD for metabolic acidification to reduce the risk of milk fever.

Important Information
The optimal time to feed a pre-calving transition diet is 3-4 weeks.
Accuracy around calving dates can be important, as feeding Springer 20 for >5 weeks may actually increase the risk of milk fever.
